GAC Operating Principles Evolution Working Group (GOPEWG)
The GAC Operating Principles Evolution (GOPE) Working Group was formally established by the GAC Chair at the GAC meeting during ICANN63 in Barcelona, Spain (see - https://63.schedule.icann.org/meetings/901633).
The purpose of the GOPE Working Group is to study, develop and make recommendations to the GAC membership for changes to the current GAC Operating Principles (see https://gac.icann.org/operating-principles/operating-principles-june-2017).
A new operating principles framework will enable the Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) to adjust and adapt to operate more effectively and efficiently as a member of the ICANN Empowered Community. The recommendations of the working group should help the GAC improve the organization, scope, clarity and specificity of the committee’s processes and procedures.

Recent developments from the GOPE WG include:
- GAC Membership endorsement of the 2023/2025 GOPE WG Work Plan at ICANN78, outlining next steps for the WG; and
- GAC Membership endorsement of the updated GAC WG Guidelines, approved at ICANN74.
As noted in the GOPE WG Work Plan, the WG will now begin focusing its efforts in reviewing the GAC Operating Principles.
