Meetings & Records

Full meetings of the GAC are usually conducted three times a year in conjunction with an ICANN public meeting. They may also be conducted intersessionally. GAC meetings are usually open. This part of the website provides access to past, present and future GAC meeting materials, including other calls and interactions the GAC has internally and with other groups.

Gulten Tepe: Hello everyone, welcome to GAC new website webinar #2 being held on Wednesday, 3 May 2017 at 14.00 UTC
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 06:57) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Steve Allison: Good morning everybody from Los Angeles
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 06:58) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Jeff Salem: Hello! My apologies in advance, but there's a high likelihood the trash trucks will barrel down the road and make a LOT of noise during the demo. I'll ask that Steve interrupt me to mute and step in if it is a problem.

Gulten Tepe: Hello Steve and Jeff. Thank you very much for the notification.

Steve Allison: Thank you for the warning Jeff; Kindly ask the Trash Service to keep it down
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 07:01) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Laura Bengford: Good morning All!

Olof Nordling: Hello from Brussels - temporarily without any trash trucks nearby;-)
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 07:02) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Manal Ismail - Egypt: Hello everyone :) !!

Gulten Tepe: Hello Manal and Olof, welcome to the Webinar
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 07:05) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Manal Ismail - Egypt: Hi Gulten :) ..
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 07:11) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Steve Allison: Please feel free to ask questions or provide commentary in the chat as Jeff goes through the demo and I will do my best to answer as we go. If it is a complex question that requires deeper discussion or example, we will ask Jeff to pause his demo and we can tackle that question (or come back to it at the end). Thank you.
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 07:13) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Olof Nordling: "All" languages meaning six of them, in this case;-)

Steve Allison: ^ correct. Thanks Olof

Ashley Heineman: Will it ultimately automatically search all of ICANN or will default be a search to GAC site? Prefer the latter FWIW.
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 07:16) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Steve Allison: Good question Ashley; This solution hasn't been built out but if I were to guess how the team would approach it: it would likely search the whole of ICANN with the GAC's search results showing more prominantly because the search originated there, but it is not known yet what this will look like. What would you think it should do?
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 07:18) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Ashley Heineman: Being able to search all of ICANN is great as an option, but if I'm looking for something GAC specific having the search combined with ICANN content will muddle the search value. So, having GAC content prioritized or making it an option (vice automically) to search all of ICANN is preferable from my humble perspective. :-)

Steve Allison: thank you
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 07:20) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Manal Ismail - Egypt: @Ashley .. Agree .. it's good to make it optional ..
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 07:22) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Steve Allison: While we're on the topic of News, over the next few months as we add new functionality and/or content to the website, I will be posting news articles with information about those updates to keep everybody informed about our progress.

Manal Ismail - Egypt: Thanks Steve .. This would be helpful ..
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 07:27) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Steve Allison: This preview of the document is a template we reuse throughout the site for official document outputs from the GAC. You see the same format for Correspondences, Communiques, Agendas, etc.
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 07:29) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Mark Carvell UK GAC rep: Working on the revision of the Operating Principles online through the website will increase the pace of this laborious work I think.
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 07:31) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Steve Allison: Just a quick reference to jeff's comments on Translation earlier: The translation button will package up the contents and send to the translation team. Simply clicking it will not auto-translate the content (if there was any confusion there)
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 07:32) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Steve Allison: @Mark We believe the sie can be used to create working draft as well. Feedback on the working processes (positive and negative) would be really valuable to get. But agree that it can improve speed as well as keep the whole GAC more clearly informed of what the latest and greatest versions are

Steve Allison: *site
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 07:34) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Manal Ismail - Egypt: Online collaborative efforts sounds great !!

Steve Allison: Related to privacy, you will notice that throughout the site there is public and private content interwoven instead of having a public section and a private section. This is a new organization that should reduce the amount of duplication of content throughout the site.
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 07:37) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Steve Allison: @Manal: Online collaboration has been requested by a number of GAC members, as well as other ICANN community members. I hear you, and we'll be working towards that soon. In the near term (Jeff will get to it soon), to be ready for collaboration I'm hoping to get some good feedback on how we've updated working groups and activities so that the work that the GAC does is clearly organized and effective for doing work. Once we've got a good template in place it makes creating collaborative technologies much easier.
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 07:40) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Manal Ismail - Egypt: I see .. Thanks Steve ..
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 07:46) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Steve Allison: Jeff is talking about some discussions that have taken place about creating a generic section of the site called "Publications" to cover a wide range of official GAC documents.

Mark Carvell UK GAC rep: So we have a link on the website to the Board's advice registry = useful for when we have Board-GAC calls.
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 07:48) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Steve Allison: @mark Long term, I'd like to have more than just a link to the advice registry. I expect that that registry will feed all updates back to the GAC's itemized advice so that you can see the whole lifecycle for each piece of advice.
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 07:57) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Mark Carvell UK GAC rep: That will be excellent for instant sight of state of play for each item of advice.
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 07:58) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Ashley Heineman: Have to drop off soon... do we get log-in credentials soon?
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 07:59) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Ashley Heineman: Thanks.
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 08:00) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Laura Bengford: The email with login credentials is using a tool called "Okta". So this is the email that will contain instructions for logging in.
------------------------------------------------------------------- (05/03/2017 08:02) -------------------------------------------------------------------
Olof Nordling: Yes, I sent around an email to the GAC list to make it clear that the OKTA email is bona fide, not phishing, and essential for getting login credentials...

Mark Carvell UK GAC rep: Would be tinely to demonstrate it to all GAC reps in Jo'burg, I note only 14 members on these two webinars today - npnody from sub-Saharan Africa.

Laura Bengford: For Accessibility, it was designed for Accessibility and we will be testing it in detail in the coming months.

Manal Ismail - Egypt: Yes .. Thanks Olof .. In fact I did not open it until I received your email ..

Olof Nordling: ..some had discarded it off hand as phishing, though, so we'll need to follow up...

Laura Bengford: W3 WCAG Level AA is our target for Accessibility!

Steve Allison: @mark we can do a session at jberg at the gac's discretion

Manal Ismail - Egypt: Many thanks Jeff, Steve and everyone who has contributed ..

Laura Bengford: Great feedback and Q's. Thank you!

Steve Allison: Thanks all for the time

Mark Carvell UK GAC rep: Thanks for the presentations! Excellent abd very thoughtful work to cate for our needs.
