In the effort to continue supporting the GAC’s readiness for the opening of the New gTLD Program application process, a series of GAC Capacity Development activities will be planned, including a pre-ICANN85 Capacity Development webinar and two GAC Capacity Development sessions at ICANN85.
With a clear focus on the GAC’s role and practical engagement ahead of reviewing GAC Early Warnings and GAC Advice at ICANN86, the pre-ICANN85 webinar will serve as an interactive entry point, setting the policy and governmental context before moving into program fundamentals. The ICANN85 Capacity Development sessions will build directly on the webinar and focus on what GAC members need in order to engage meaningfully.
Please find the agenda for the webinar below:
- Part 1 – Government perspectives and relevance of New gTLDs
GAC members with experience and engagement on New gTLDs will frame the discussion around:- Why new gTLDs matter for governments
- Why this topic is relevant at ministerial and senior policy levels
- Practical examples drawn from past GAC engagement
This segment is designed to encourage dialogue with participants, to surface perspectives and areas of interest from GAC members.
- Part 2 – New gTLD Program overview
Building on that context, the ICANN org New gTLD Program Team will provide a concise, government-focused “101” overview of the Next Round, using visuals of the application lifecycle and examples of how applications translate into operational registries, with space for questions and further interaction.
